The Upper Wenatchee Pilot Project (UWPP), which covers approximately 75,000 acres surrounding Lake Wenatchee and Fish Lake in southern Chelan County, was developed and is being implemented by the North Central Washington Forest Health Collaborative (NCWFHC). The UWPP seeks to “restore forest health and resiliency by reestablishing forest structure, returning fire to the landscape, improving wildlife habitat, and improving watershed function”. NCWAS believes the project has the potential to significantly improve habitat conditions within the area, thereby benefiting birds, fish, and other wildlife. In March 2019 we submitted a letter to the project’s scoping process expressing general support and providing thoughts on specific aspects we feel are important for the many species that utilize the area. The project is long-term and will take years to complete. We continue to monitor its progress and will update this space as developments warrant.
